Recently, I have come across an increasing number of news articles sort of admitting that some of the biggest health claims and scare tactics we’ve been bombarded with in recent years are…a bunch of bullshit.
Bullshit Claim #1 - Butter Is Bad For You
Well, is it really? Do some research on what’s in that margarine or butter substitute you’re using, and decide for yourself if a little healthy fat is really so bad. Make sure to check out Bullshit Claim #3.
Bullshit Claim #2 - Eggs Are Bad for You
Check out this article from Weight Watchers: http://www.weightwatchers.com/util/art/index_art.aspx?tabnum=1&art_id=24241.
Although WW often skirts issues surrounding the healthfulness of low-fat, fat-free, or whatever “diet” foods, this article makes some interesting points. I get that they don’t want to undermine their bottom line (making money off of people who are trying to lose weight), but isn’t there a way to eat and cook without using food full of chemicals but without fat? Which is worse? Being “overweight” (whose definition is this, anyway?) or dying from cancer because you’ve enjoyed a smaller clothing size courtesy of fat-free cheese? I have fallen into both categories, so I’m more than familiar with this conundrum. Oh, and I’ve lost over 20 pounds on Weight Watchers. Twice.
Bullshit Claim #3 - Fat Has Nothing To Do With Heart Disease.
Oh, my favorite. Read and it eat.

Bullshit Claim #4 - You’ll Live Longer If You’re Not Overweight
Huh. Guess not.
